Melanie Eubanks

Ceramics and Painting

Melanie Eubanks creates wood fired ceramics and paintings. She received a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing in 1992 and a Masters in Art Education in 1993. Since then, she has shown her work frequently in group and solo exhibitions.  Melanie is active member of several arts organizations, including the Hattiesburg Women’s Art Collective and serves as an officer for the historic Mississippi Art Colony. She has taught in the Visual Arts program at Jones College since 1994, and in 2023, was awarded Mississippi Humanities Teacher of the Year.   Melanie’s ceramic work often includes sgraffito—illustrations carved into clay. Both the ceramic forms and their illustrations typically reference organic shapes in nature and take on character through the spontaneous effects of wood kiln firing. Her oil paintings often depict still life arrangements in domestic and studio settings, often interacting with her ceramic designs. Melanie conducts sgraffito workshops for amateur and professional artists.
